Shoreditch Town Hall

380 Old Street EC1V 9LT

This imposing Victorian building in the heart of Shoreditch was the centre of local democracy and civic life until 1960s. After a period as a music hall and a boxing venue, it went into decline and was put on the ‘at risk’ register by English Heritage. A campaign was launched to save the building with its magnificently decorated interior. It is now run by a trust that has transformed it into a thriving arts venue. Our last concert was held here and featured 8 cellos and a violin performing to a packed audience of adults and children.

Round Chapel

1D Glenarm Road E5 0LY

This grade II listed chapel, situated on Lower Clapton Road, is one of the most remarkable buildings in Hackney. Its unusual round-shaped interior resembles a mini Royal Albert Hall! Restored by the Hackney Historic Buildings Trust, the main auditorium is now owned and managed by the trust as a venue for arts and the community, with the rest of the building still used by the congregation of the United Reformed Church. The Hackney Proms presented Kabantu here in 2019.

Hackney Empire

291 Mare Street E8 1EJ

A magnificent grade II listed theatre in the heart of Hackney, built in 1901 as a music hall and designed by the same architect, Frank Matcham, who designed the Coliseum, the home of English National Opera. In the 1980s the building was threatened with demolition but a campaign saved it and returned it to its original use as a theatre. The Hackney Proms inaugural concert was given here in 2006.

Stoke Newington Town Hall

Church Street N16 9JP

Situated on Stoke Newington Church Street, this 1930s building has a huge Assembly Room with an outstanding art deco interior. For many years Hackney Proms concerts were held here in the round. This is where our new director Kate first performed for us, many years ago.

Hackney Showroom

This is a quirky warehouse space situated in a vibrant community of cafes, shops and work-spaces called Hackney Downs Studios. Sadly this venue is no longer available for public performances, but we are looking for similar venues around the borough. Palisander entranced us with their amazing playing and vast array of different recorders here in 2018.
